CT officials said two people in New Fairfield and Danbury were killed Tuesday in separate accidents when trees fell on their trucks, including a woman whose 3-year-old child escaped injury.

Connecticut State Police also confirmed that someone in New Fairfield was killed after a tree landed on their auto.

An 11-year-old girl died in Newburgh, New York, when a large tree fell on the vehicle she was in, police said.

Officials in Brookfield, Connecticut, declared a town disaster and told residents to stay inside until they could assess the damage. "Please be aware that there are hundreds of downed trees, utility poles and electrical lines". "AVOID all down trees and utility poles as they may still involve LIVE power lines", the Brookfield Police Department said on Facebook.

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo said on Twitter Tuesday night that he was declaring a state of emergency in Putnam, Dutchess, Orange and Sullivan counties and "deploying members of the New York National Guard to assist with recovery operations".

More rain is expected over the next few days, with potential flooding through Saturday.

"New York has once again withstood the fury of Mother Nature and now is the time for the state and our local partners to get communities throughout the Mid-Hudson region up and running again", the governor said in a statement. The biggest threat for flooding will be from southern New Jersey to Virginia, where 4-8 inches of rain could fall with localized heavier amounts possible.
