Gaza Killings: Ireland Summons Israeli Ambassador

Marcos Fernando Yax

"South Africa maintains further that the violence in the Gaza Strip will stand in the way of rebuilding Palestinian institutions and infrastructure".

Israel's ambassador to Belgium, Simona Frankel, was summoned to a meeting with the Belgian foreign ministry on Wednesday, Haaretz reported, after she referred in an interview to those killed on Monday as "terrorists".

In a statement released afterwards, a spokesperson for Mr Coveney said: "Our mission in Ramallah reports that emergency responders in Gaza and the Strips' health services are overwhelmed with the level of casualties".

At least 60 Palestinians were martyred and thousands wounded by Israeli gunfire along the Gaza border on Monday during protests marking the Nakba anniversary and opening of the U.S. embassy in Jerusalem.

"We obviously are going to apply our minds with Cabinet colleagues, and we will respond in due course at the soonest available opportunity", he said.

Gaza's Hamas-run health ministry said Tuesday that 60 Palestinians were killed and more than 2,700 were wounded the day before amid the biggest riots and rallies in a weeks-long campaign of protests against Israel, known collectively as the "March of Return".

"China has always believed that the final status of Jerusalem should be finally settled through peace talks between Palestine and Israel in accordance with the relevant resolutions of the United Nations", Lu said.

This is another stark reminder of the ongoing Israeli brutality against the indigenous Palestinians, which painfully reminds us of the darkest days of Apartheid in South Africa. We need to show that we support the Palestinian people in their fight against the Israeli government. Sinn Féin calls on the Irish government to take a lead internationally on this.

The death toll led to strong condemnation from rights groups and concern from a range of countries.

"My request to him was to ask if there was the possibility of considering putting the inauguration of the U.S. embassy in Jerusalem on hold".

"All these cases show that America intends to destroy the global institution of the United Nations", he told parliament on Tuesday.

The US decision to transfer its Israel embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, while welcomed by Israel, infuriated the Palestinians and was widely criticized by the global community.
