Massive dust storm hits Delhi-NCR on Wednesday morning

Wednesday onwards, more thunderstorms and gusts are set to hit North India including hilly regions in Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand, and in plains of Delhi, Chandigarh, Haryana, Punjab, and Uttar Pradesh. So far, there were no reports of casualties.

According to Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), dust storms accompanied with strong winds and lightning are likely to hit Delhi and it's adjacent areas which include Rohtak, Manesar, Gurgaon, Sonepat and Meerut in the next two hours.

On Sunday, heavy dust storm, followed by rain and lightning, also hit the city and several states, claiming 90 lives, besides injuring over 150.

Strong winds, accompanied by dust and light rain brought a sudden decline in the temperatures.

51 had died in Uttar Pradesh, 12 in Andhra Pradesh, 14 in West Bengal, two in New Delhi and one in Uttarakhand on Sunday, news agency ANI quoted a report published by the Home Ministry. On Tuesday, the IMD had forecasted that the wind speeds could reach approximately 74 km per hour.

A wave of sandstorms and thunderstorms sweeping through in India have left at least 86 people dead and 100 others injured, authorities said Monday.

High-velocity winds uprooted trees and affected road, rail and air services last evening at a number of places in north India, including the national capital. The dust storms and thunderstorms caused destruction in Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal and New Delhi, that saw 40 people killed, leaving over a trail of destruction.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) had said that the thunderstorm will continue for the next 48 to 72 hours.
