Pope Francis expresses concern over escalating violence in Middle East

Pope calls on nations to 'integrate' refugees

In the lead up to Pentecost I echo Pope Francis' call for prayers for the people in Gaza'.

"I invite all the parties involved and the worldwide community to renew the commitment so that dialogue, justice and peace prevail".

Pope Francis Wednesday expressed concern over escalating violence in the Middle East after the Israeli army killed at least 60 Palestinians in Gaza while protesting opening the USA embassy in occupied Jerusalem.

After expressing his sorrow for the dead and the wounded and his closeness to all those who suffer, the pope insisted that the "use of violence that leads to peace".

Deadly protests along the Israel and Gaza border over the last seven weeks escalated Monday after Israeli troops opened fire on protesting Palestinians, resulting in 58 dead and another 2,700 injured, most from sniper-fire, according to the ministry of health.

Since the Gaza rallies began on March 30, more than 100 Palestinian demonstrators have been martyred by cross-border Israeli army gunfire.

"War calls war, violence calls violence".

Last December, on the same day Trump announced his decision to fulfill a campaign promise by moving the US embassy to Jerusalem, Francis said that could not "keep silent about my deep concern" for Jerusalem and urged respect for "the status quo of the city in accordance with the relevant resolutions of the United Nations".

In a seperate joint statement the two bishops said: 'The bad loss of life in Gaza caused by the Israeli army's use of live fire against civilians is to be condemned unequivocally'. He condemned Israel's actions "unequivocally". Hundreds of families across Gaza are now mourning their loved ones, dead and wounded.

'All violence is destructive to peace efforts and our cry is for a peaceful two state solution with Jerusalem as the shared capital. The Anglican Church is committed to serve the people of Gaza through the extraordinary work of the hospitals I was able to visit there a year ago'.
