Bing is latest to ban cryptocurrency ads

The move comes after Google, Facebook and Twitter all made a decision to ban crypto and ICO-related ads on their platforms.

"To help protect our users from this risk, we have made the decision to disallow advertising for cryptocurrency, cryptocurrency related products, and un-regulated binary options", wrote Melissa Alsoszatai-Petheo, advertising policy manager at Microsoft, in a blog post.

Bing, a search engine powered by tech giant Microsoft, has recently joined Google, Facebook, and Twitter in banning cryptocurrency-related ads from its platform.

The updated financial products and services policy will go into effect globally in June, and enforcement will roll out in late June or early July.

"We keep on evaluating our policies to ensure safety and a good engagement among our Bing users and the digital advertising ecosystem. Since cryptocurrency unregulated, they pose an elevated risk to Bing users and the general internet users with the potential for bad actors to engage in bad behavior or even scam consumers". The banning includes cryptocurrencies, crypto-related products, and unregulated binary options.

Digital currencies - together with related products and services - is among other legally questionable business opportunities on the ban list of Microsoft, such as pyramid schemes, Ponzi schemes, and investments that rely on adding users to a scheme.

Bing's official stance is similar to other companies that have Banned Crypto Ads. Facebook became the first social media platform to ban ads for cryptocurrencies in January of this year. Just last week, Facebook announced a new Blockchain department with rumours of the company launching their own Cryptocurrency. Though the companies have banned ads, CEO of both Facebook and Twitter embrace Crypto. In March, Google announced a ban that comes into force in June.
