Facebook updates push Stories past its Snapchat clone beginnings

Facebook

Finally, Facebook will let you archive your stories like it does on Instagram so you can save the stories you like the most. These conversations help the team understand what Facebook can do to make sure that the feature helps people in connecting and creating content "in meaningful ways".

Three of the new features on the online social media and networking service, Facebook, will be coming to India before they roll to the rest of the world.

Addressing the limited phone storage issues faced by most Indians, Facebook has added a feature that will allow users to save photos and videos for later. If you have, then you might be glad to know that Facebook is launching a Save option, so you can do your story now and post it later. The idea behind this feature is to let users save space on their smartphones as the photos and videos get saved on the cloud. Now, it looks like the company may have a new strategy to do just that. These memories can be seen right when you log into your Facebook account and help you save the storage on your smartphone. You can also archive Stories privately in your account.

Users will be able to put a background colour to audio posts or a background picture.

The feature becomes slightly more important as this is being rolled out in India first and will only be gradually available to users in other countries. Camera-shy people or users with a poor quality camera wouldn't share as many videos as expected. Voice posts, which are also being introduced, give people a new medium through which they can express themselves.

As the Voice Posts feature is highly inspired by voice messaging on WhatsApp, it works in a similar way.

The next new feature is that images captured using the Facebook camera can now automatically be uploaded to the Facebook cloud.

Nearly as an afterthought, Facebook is also adding voice posts, which allows the camera-shy to make fun updates without having to put on makeup first. You can always choose to not save them. Facebook will give users the option of also turning off the archive so that the Stories are not saved.

It makes sense that these new features are rolling out to India first, as they appear to mostly be geared towards developing markets where flagship smartphones are either unaffordable or non-existent.

Another upcoming feature allows users to archive their Stories, not unlike Instagram's relatively new archiving feature.
