Fairfield, Calif., mother faces nine additional felony counts of child abuse

California prosecutors allege 10 children in filthy home were waterboarded, hit with crossbows, BBs, kicked and punched.

The boy had been asleep under a bush in the yard of a nearby home, according to a police statement Monday.

Police said the conditions suggest child abuse of the 10 children, who range in age from 4 months to 11 years old, police said.

On Tuesday, Allen told KCRA-TV from Solano County Jail that he has never spanked his children.

The mother of 10 Fairfield children who police said were living in squalor and suffered "intentional" injuries will face nine additional counts of felony child abuse, if a Solano County judge approves a motion from prosecutors.

Urine, human and animal feces, garbage and rotten food littered the floor, police said, and heaps of debris blocked off parts of the house.

But authorities say there has been a long and continuous history of severe physical and emotional abuse of the children.

In the six weeks since that arrest, police said, authorities have interviewed the eight older children and learned more disturbing details about their lives. "My kids get bumped and bruised and scratched because they're kids but that's it".

In the filed report, Deputy District Attorney Veronic Juarez said Rogers assisted in the abuse of her children and persuaded them not to say anything as a means to protect Allen.

"I strive, I thrive on being a good parent to my children", Rogers told KGO.

The alleged abuse was done with "sadistic objective", Henry said during a news conference.

A California father charged with torturing his children was charged with domestic violence in 2011.

Rogers could not be reached Monday evening for comments.

The Solano County alternate public defender's office has just been appointed to Allen's case, Roberto Najera said. She's now free on $10,000 bail. "It wasn't until family issues, personal family issues, family vendettas come up that accusations like this from other family members take place", he said. They now live with Rogers' sister and at her mother's house in Antioch.

On Monday, she showed reporters the family's four-bedroom home and denied abusing the children, saying that she is being judged for having a large family and home-schooling them. She did not say why. The father, 29-year-old Jonathan Allen, was also arrested and sent to the same facility where he pled "not guilty" to the charges against him.

Rogers said the children slept in one bedroom because they were close; cots were stored in a bedroom closet.

He said he wants to tell the children he loves them. He had been angry because Allen and Rogers had tried to take away his tablet computer, Rogers said, according to the AP.

She led reporters through the house, which the AP reported still looked squalid behind the cream-colored, hedge-lined exterior: animal droppings littered the bathroom, and scuff marks still covered some walls.

Rogers, 30, was arrested on suspicion of neglect last month and released after posting $10,000 bail.

"Nothing was founded, my kids were placed back with me", she said.

"Based upon what the children stated in their interviews, we believe torture occurred in this house", Henry said at a news conference.

Rogers said she homeschooled the children, but there is no record she registered with the state as required by law. She said that they had a baby when they first moved in and another baby late a year ago.

Rogers told reporters earlier this week that the allegations against her and her husband are false.
