Instagram to Offer Time Sink Insights

How to Make Money From Instagram

The Facebook-owned app is working on a new "Usage Insights" feature, which will inform users the length of time they spend within the app.

When most sites are clamoring harder than ever for your time and clicks, it's interesting that Instagram is building a tool that might actually cause some users to put down their phones for a while and take a break from tapping and swiping. Systrom tweeted the feature with the caption, "It's true".

Systrom did not specify if the feature will show the total time someone spends on the app, or whether these figures will be broken down further by day, week, or month.

Code buried in Instagram's Android app revealed that a "Usage Insights" feature was built into the code that will allow people to see their "time spent" on the app.

Application makers usually encourage users to spend more time engaging with their app, but Kevin Systrom, Instragram's chief executive, said in a Tweet that Instagram should help ensure that any time spent using the app should be "positive and intentional". Instagram is not alone here. It will show you the time spent on the platform, TechCrunch reports. You'll soon be able to find out.

It is hard to judge whether these technology companies are really concerned about the well being of their consumers or is it a mere attempt to address the concern among their core users.
