Kent State graduate's photo with AR-10 goes viral

Recent Kent State grad protests school’s firearm restrictions ‘Come and take

"Students, staff, faculty, and third parties doing business with the university are further prohibited from possessing, storing, or using a deadly weapon while outside on university grounds, that is owned, operated or leased by the university", reads Kent State's policy, according to CBS News.

Her reference to the "4 unarmed students were shot and killed by the government" is to the 1970 Kent State shooting resulting in the deaths of four students at the hands of Ohio National Guardsmen.

In an interview with the Akron Beacon Journal on April 25, 2018, Bennett said, "Kent State is one of the few schools in OH that decided that students wouldn't be permitted to open carry on campus while guests can".

On Tuesday, Bennett posted another picture. The university told Refinery29 that Bennett, now that she's a graduate, is within her rights to openly carry her rifle.

Mansfield added that the photos were taken Sunday, and Bennett informed the university of her plans.

"Kent State University was recently ranked the safest big college campus in OH and 25th safest in the country, according to the National Council for Home Safety and Security".

"As a woman, I refuse to be a victim and the Second Amendment ensures that I don't have to be", she tweeted.

But campus police can't always intervene fast enough, Bennett said, arguing that "pulling out a gun is easier than dialing 911". Only non-student guests are permitted to be in possession of a firearm. "Why does the school value the lives of guests more than those paying thousands of dollars to attend the university?"

At one point, Bennett tweeted to a woman named Rachel that she would "See you around next semester", which many called out as being a threat of violence. During her time at Kent State, she founded a chapter of Liberty Hangout, a small libertarian media outlet dedicated to promoting peace, prosperity, and property rights.

"Kent State University was recently ranked the safest big college campus in OH and 25th safest in the country, according to the National Council for Home Safety and Security", Mansfield's statement said. "Only this time, I won't have to worry about being expelled for expressing my views".
