Man tries to break into plane in security scare at Melbourne Airport

The man reportedly tried to storm the nearest A320

The 57-year-old then allegedly grew to become irate and bodily with Jetstar employees after being informed he was hours late for his earlier flight to Adelaide.

And it wasn't even the right flight.

According to Channel 9 the man made several attempts to enter the plane, "before he begins to bash it with his feet".

He pushed his way onto the tarmac and attacked the door, before eventually being retained by baggage handlers.

He has now been banned from all Qantas and Jetstar flights for the time being and, depending on how the police investigation pans out, faces being on the airlines.

A man who ran onto the tarmac at Melbourne Airport and tried to storm a plane because he was running late has been charged with assaulting a Jetstar employee.

Witness Susannah Leigh Murray told 9News that she was waiting to get on the flight when she saw the drama unfold.

"Someone was running on the tarmac. This man was attempting to rise up the steps, he was bodily preventing with the employees, punching and scratching them".

"At some point he got away from them", she said. "The federal police confirmed up 5 minutes later and walked him out".

"We praise our crew for safely handling this incident and restraining the passenger until police arrived".

"This behavior is unacceptable and we have placed an immediate ban on this passenger travelling on all Jetstar and Qantas flights", said a representative for the airline.

AFP officers have taken the man into custody but charges are yet to be laid.
