More 'Hard Knocks' to come for Browns, this time on HBO

"The storylines in Cleveland are compelling, which make the Browns an ideal partner on HARD KNOCKS", says NFL Films senior executive Ross Ketover.

"Will become official later today: Browns selected to be featured team on this summer's Hard Knocks, per source", Schefter tweets.

The Browns have renewed optimism following the recent draft.

Cleveland is the 13th franchise to participate in "Hard Knocks", which began in 2001 with the Baltimore Ravens. This will be the first time that the Browns are the subject of the show.

And for HBO, Mayfield's quest to win the starting job is just one of several juicy story lines.

"It's not something we would be really excited about", Lynch told NBC Sports Bay Area earlier this month about the prospects of the 49ers being on 'Hard Knocks.' "I love the show, but I think some things are best left behind closed doors". HARD KNOCKS: TRAINING CAMP WITH THE CLEVELAND BROWNS will chronicle head coach Hue Jackson entering his third season, leading the team with its intriguing mix of emerging young stars, established veterans, free-agent additions and highly regarded rookie hopefuls throughout training camp and the preseason.

HBO's cameras are certain to focus on Mayfield, the brash Heisman Trophy victor from Oklahoma the Browns chose over other quarterbacks. The series will debut Tuesday, Aug. 7 (10-11:00 p.m. ET/PT).

The Browns have some good young players who are not well known outside Cleveland.

As Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk points out, Dorsey could have avoided "Hard Knocks" by firing Jackson, he of the 1-31 record. Are we going to have to hear him talk about only wanting players that are here to work? Everyone work hard and try not to get a staph infection? "This will be a great opportunity for our team".

Browns general manager John Dorsey had expressed reservations about appearing on the series. "Hue and I both feel like this team is in a good place and that we're in the process of building something that will lead to success". "We're excited about what we're building within our organization and feel good about the progress we've made this offseason".
