This entails that 15 May 2018 is expected to be the last day of trading on Oslo Børs under the ticker “STL”.

Statoil shareholders have approved the board of director's proposal to change the company's name to Equinor.

Norway's largest oil company Statoil officially changed its name to Equinor on Wednesday as it forges ahead with its drive into renewable energy.

Subject to the AGM's approval of the name change and subsequent implementation, the new ticker "EQNR" is also expected to be implemented for the Company's American Deposit Rights (ADRs) traded on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE).

The new name will also be reflected in the Norwegian company's American Deposit Rights (ADRs), which are traded on the NY bourse, as of May 17, at the earliest. And while Statoil is working to develop and grow its own renewable energy areas, the name Statoil could make some potential employees think that's not the case.

"The world is changing, and so is Statoil".

Equinor has emerged over the last few years as a significant player in the global offshore wind sector, developing fixed-bottom projects off the United Kingdom and pioneering the Hywind floating turbine technology.

Statoil is one of the leading producers of oil and gas in the world, drawing on reserves from the North Sea to the US waters of the Gulf of Mexico.
