Voter turnout in Oregon Primaries lowest in decades

Lincoln County May 2018 Primary Election

This budget year, county elections were November 17 for state amendments (1,659 voters, 3.1 percent of those registered); hospital district December 17 (7,600 voters, 14.3 percent turnout); and the state and local primary March 6 (9,128 voters, 17.2 percent).

In Multnomah County, with the state's highest voter registration, elections office spokesman Eric Sample said that voter turnout seems to be higher than in previous years.

Voters still have plenty of time to get out there and hit the polls. Only voters who enter the polling place as undeclared on Primary Election day may choose to change back to undeclared at the polling place after voting on Primary day.

But, it is also down from the 17,203 registered primary voters in 2014, the last midterm election year.

Tuesday is Election Day for Idaho's primaries, and some voters still have unanswered questions about candidates, polling places and more.

OR voters appear on track to show their lowest turnout in a primary election in at least 16 years, ballot statistics indicate.

Part of the problem here, though, is that ranked choice voting in Benton County doesn't apply to party primaries.

Votes are due no later than 8 p.m. and voters can submit their ballots to any designated drop site or local elections office.

Only 1,218 of Orange's 53,019 registered voters (2 percent) made it to the polls for the Democratic primary March 6 and of those only 485 Democrats voted for one of the three candidates for governor.

Over in Blaine County - one of Idaho's few regions where Democrats tend to win election workers said they were not running low on Democratic ballots. However, for many, early voting is still now underway.

Secretary of State John Gale had predicted a statewide turnout of 28 percent of registered voters. Returning two voted ballots will result in neither ballot counting. We connected to other states like Arizona.
