Williams, Pirates shut out White Sox

The Pirates (24-17) recorded their major-league-leading seventh shutout Tuesday with a 7-0 win over the White Sox (10-28).

"I thought we did our homework well last time", he said.

When it comes to Lopez's counterpart - Trevor Williams - his start was a complete 180 from that of the White Sox righty. I was trying to figure out which way to go, trying to make that adjustment, and I just never figured that out. "If we were playing at their yard today, some would have left the yard, as well". Instead, Nicky Delmonico got completely turned around by the ball and it dropped a few feet behind him.

Staked with an advantage, Williams pitched through the seventh inning for the first time this season. Leury Garcia ripped a no-doubter over the right-center field wall to lead off the second inning and Yolmer Sanchez added a blast of his own in the fifth.

"It's tough in the short term to come out of a game, but, hopefully, by coming out when I did, we've kind of mitigated it. ..."

Gregory Polanco and Josh Bell had two hits each, Bell drove in three runs.

White Sox: 2B Yoan Moncada (left hamstring tightness) was activated from the disabled list and went 1 for 4. Marte doubled and scored in the bottom of the first.

Marte (side) is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the White Sox. He was replaced by Rodriguez. The Bucs lost Starling Marte and Francisco Cervelli to injuries during the game.

Lopez would face the first two batters of the top of the 3rd inning before being pulled.

White Sox: LHP Hector Santiago (0-1, 5.60 ERA) will make a spot start on Wednesday in the series finale.

Santiago was pegged to make his third start, 12th appearance, when Chicago made a decision to push Carson Fulmer's start back to Friday against Texas at home to give him a full week off after he has struggled.

Over on the Pirates' side, their Wednesday starter will be RHP Jameson Taillon. He left his previous start on May 11 after just three innings with a laceration on the middle finger of his right hand.
