Toddler, one, dies after father leaves her in hot truck all day

The scene Wednesday in Nashville

Detectives have been told that the child's father left home at 7:30 a.m. with his two children (Katera and a five-year-old) to take them to a daycare facility on Chapel Avenue.

Katera was found by her mom in the auto seat as she arrived home at approximately 5:45 p.m.

A one-year-old girl has died after being left in a hot pick-up truck. She was pronounced dead on arrival at Monroe Carrell Jr.

Records indicated that temperatures in Nashville reached 89 degrees on the day in question-meaning temperatures inside the truck could've reached 120 degrees.

The girl's death is the seventh so far this year and all have been children a year old or younger, according to NoHeatstroke.org, a website of hot-car death information compiled by Jan Null.

At 5:42 p.m., Jenny Barker called 911 as she pulled into her driveway, police said.

The average temperature in Nashville yesterday was 25C with a high of 31C at just before 2pm.

Jenny Barker called her husband and came to the realization that the little girl was still in the pickup truck. Tragically, this wasn't the case and both the babies died of heat stroke.

Matt Barker flew back to Nashville, arriving late Wednesday, police said. Meanwhile, the founder of KidsAndCars.org offers this tip to parents who fear leaving a child in a hot auto, via WSMV: "Keep a stuffed animal in your child's vehicle seat and when you put your child in the auto seat put that up front in the passenger seat", or put "anything in the backseat that you'll need to grab when you arrive at your destination". Police have since said they are investigating the incident.
