Pre-Flown SpaceX Rocket Launches Commercial Communications Satellite

GETTYA SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket carrying a TESS spacecraft was launched from Cape Canaveral in April

The SES-10 satellite lifted off on March 30, 2017, atop a Falcon 9 with a used first stage.

Flying with a reused first stage booster, a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket climbed into orbit from Florida's Space Coast early Monday with a commercial communications satellite for the Luxembourg-based operator SES. Weather officials said this is from a weak surface front that will be bring west-southwest winds during the launch window. The window to launch the rocket opens at 12:29 a.m. Monday and last for four hours. For example, the first stage of the recently debuted "Block 5" Falcon 9 is created to fly 10 times with just inspections between touchdown and liftoff, and 100 times or more with some refurbishment in the mix, Musk has said. The Block 5 variant of the rocket, optimized for reusability, has flown a single time, on May 11.

SpaceX has successfully launched a satellite using a pre-flown rocket yet again. "We are going to be very rigorous in taking this rocket apart and confirming our design assumptions to be confident that is indeed able to be reused without taking apart", Musk said last month. The satellite will be deployed roughly 32 minutes after liftoff.

The 12,000-pound SES-12 spacecraft, built by Airbus Defence and Space, will deliver high-speed data to across Asia and the Pacific.
