Trump Asks Trudeau: ‘Didn’t You Guys Burn Down the White House?’

President Donald Trump had an embarrassing phone call with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on May 25 about steel and aluminum import tariffs that found Trump accusing Canada of burning down the White House in 1812.

OTTAWA-Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's office says he spoke to provincial and territorial premiers on Monday to update them on Ottawa's response to the "unacceptable" USA steel and aluminum tariffs.

"There may be disagreements, I regard this as much like a family quarrel". "I'm always the optimist, I believe it can be worked out, and I'm always hopeful on that point".

So far, Trump has not tweeted about CNN's report on his 1812 comment being "fake news" but stay tuned.

According to the sources, Trudeau pressed Trump on how he could justify the tariffs as a "national security" issue. Soldiers reportedly sat down to eat a meal made of leftover food from the White House scullery using White House dishes and silver before ransacking the presidential mansion and setting it ablaze.

Kudlow also insisted that the U.S. relationship with Canada, in particular, was still "very good".

As Trudeau prepares to welcome G7 leaders Friday in Charlevoix, Que., the lead Italian negotiator on climate change from last year's gathering says European leaders see the Trans Mountain decision as proof Europe is going to have to carry the ball on climate. And tariffs are simply one more tool in the president's toolbox when it comes to repairing it. Despite the tensions, Trump is sticking to his guns, saying that the United States "must, at long last, be treated fairly on trade". "People should realize how serious he is in that respect".

"The prime minister expressed his disappointment with the decision by the USA administration to impose tariffs on Canadian steel and aluminum", says a readout from his office.

"We have on various occasions heard the president speak about his interest or his musings about bilateral deals, instead of the trilateral NAFTA that we have", he said.

The G7 groups Canada, the United States, Japan, Britain, Italy, France and Germany.
