Singapore's foreign minister to visit North Korea ahead of Trump-Kim summit

Dennis Rodman flying to Singapore for Kim-Trump summit

On top of the vicinity surrounding Shangri-La Hotel, the resort island of Sentosa - a spot known more for rollercoasters, beach parties and expensive abodes than political pow-wows - has been designated a "special event area" for the summit between US President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un on June 12.

Trump and Kim are slated to meet on June 12 in Singapore to discuss the denuclearization of the Korean peninsula, and Putin says that all major regional players, including Russian Federation, should offer North Korea guarantees in order to have a fruitful meeting.

Speaking at a business conference in Tel Aviv, Rudy Giuliani - the former mayor of NY - said the billionaire tycoon only had the meeting rescheduled after Pyongyang was forced to soften its stance. Putin also said that the global community should help North Korea with its economic development and guarantee Kim's safety in exchange for the abandonment of Pyongyang's nuclear weapons program.

Mr Giuliani said: "Kim Jong Un got back on his hands and knees and begged for it, which is exactly the position you want to put him in".

As to the designated location of the summit, there has been no confirmation yet, however Shangri-La hotel has been said to be the likely venue, amidst speculation about other high-end hotels such as St Regis Singapore and Four Seasons Hotel Singapore and the Fullerton Hotel. "They have nothing to do with the administration, and a metaphor", he said.

The announcement that the meeting was back on followed a meeting between Mr Trump and senior North Korean official Kim Yong Chol, who arrived at the White House to hand-deliver a letter from the country's leader.

According to Peskov, the North Korean leader's visit may take place during the Fourth Eastern Economic Forum (EEF) set to be held in Russia's Far Eastern city of Vladivostok in September.

United States officials have not met with Kim since Trump cancelled the summit, scheduled for next week in Singapore.
