Donald Trump: Top economies should drop all tariffs

"I highlighted directly to the president that Canadians did not take it lightly that the United States has moved forward with significant tariffs", said Trudeau. The president said that the level of the relationship with the G7 leaders "is a 10".

He is now raging on Twitter about a statement given by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau following Trump's early exit.

"We strive to reduce tariff barriers, non-tariff barriers and subsidies", they said.

U.S. President Donald Trump angered his G7 allies last week by slapping them with hefty tariffs on steel and aluminum - a move that prompted Canada and the European Union to threaten duties of their own. And it could even undercut the upcoming North Korea summit - Trump effectively backed out of a deal with allies while traveling to try and reach a deal with a foe.

Trump has complained repeatedly - including throughout the summit - about Canada's protected dairy sector, citing 270 percent tariffs that he says stand in the way of American farmers accessing that market.

A few minutes later, Trump changed his Twitter profile header picture from the G7 family photo to a photograph of himself singing the anthem with members of USA military in Atlanta in January this year - apparently another jab at his summit-mates, considering how far back he had to dig to find that one. "We're like the piggy bank that everybody's robbing, and that ends".

According to reports from inside the summit in Canada, Mr Trump caused deep divisions between the seven major nations - the US, Germany, France, Japan, Canada, Britain and Italy - by delivering a "rant" on global trade.

Trump left the summit early to fly to Singapore, where he is set to meet with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un for historic negotiations in which the White House hopes to convince Pyongyang to abandon its nuclear weapons. "And we charge nothing", he said.

Trump earlier had criticised India over high tariffs on Harley- Davidson.

Trudeau also took a jab at President Trump, who arrived late for a gender equality meeting.

Trudeau said he told Trump that readmitting Russian Federation "is not something that we are even remotely looking at at this time". "This isn't just G7".

In Washington, the top White House economic adviser accused Canada's prime minister on Sunday of betraying Trump with "polarising" statements on US trade policy that risked undermining the American leader on the eve of a historic summit with North Korea.

While the consensus-based G7 might well agree on the benefits of both free and fair trade between economic allies, it appears what that could look like it still up for debate.

The letter comes on the day of the Group of 7 (G-7) summit amid heightened conflict between Trump and other G-7 members over the tariffs and following Trump's suggestion that Russian Federation be reinstated into the group. Russian Federation joined the G-7 in the 1990s, making it the Group of Eight, but was expelled after its annexation of Crimea in 2014.
