French Authorities Release Statement On Anthony Bourdain's Passing

Val Kilmer

The circumstances of Bourdain's death has led authorities "to suspect that not much preparation and premeditation went into the act, and leads us more in the direction of an impulsive act", the prosecutor said.

Bourdain's mother, Gladys Bourdain, told The New York Times that Ripert had told her that "Tony had been in a dark mood these pats couple of days", but she had no idea that her son might have been thinking of suicide. Anthony was in the city while filming for his CNN show, Parts Unknown.

Bourdain's partner, Asia Argento, also spoke out via Instagram on Friday.

He was interviewed for the story while shooting the now-famous episode of his CNN series Parts Unknown in Hanoi, Vietnam with President Barack Obama. Bourdain claimed all the best cooks in his NY restaurants came from there.

Bourdain's struggles with depression were previously brought to light in a 2016 episode of his show, where he visited Argentina - a country which fascinated him because it embraced mental health treatment.

"Bourdain joined CNN five years ago, and changed us forever", Stelter continued.

He went on to write, jokingly: 'She's an interesting woman. But I married Sophia Loren. Wherever he was in the world, Bourdain could find the joy in any food as long as it tasted good, whether it was haute cuisine or peasant food made from the "nasty bits", often described in pornographic terms. He promoted his Mexican-born sous chef, the late Carlos Llaguno Garcia, to run two of his NY restaurants and complained loudly about the United States' "ridiculously hypocritical attitudes" toward immigration.

It was also Ripert who discovered the body of Bourdain last Friday in France. That same year, she gave birth to their daughter. I don't think I'm deluding myself. I didn't talk to him this week but all I know was he was so happy last week.

"I feel obliged to at least do the best I can and not do anything really stupidly self-destructive if I can avoid it", he said. Tons of kids? Grandkids running around? Yes. But I'm pretty sure I'm incapable of it'.

Bourdain's mother, Gladys, 83, told The Times on Saturday that she was shocked by the news of her son's death.
