After 2 year gap, Rahul Gandhi to host Congress iftar

Congress President Rahul Gandhi

Congress president Rahul Gandhi expressed grief over the death of Shahi and conveyed his condolence to the bereaved family.

"The RSS is a force working to divide the people".

Gandhi will be in the city to address booth-level workers as part of "Project Shakti", which aims to empower the ground-level workers and facilitate two-way communication between the party workers and the central leadership. This, of course, was a jibe aimed at Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

"Today, our nation has become a slave of 2-3 BJP leaders and the RSS..." Everyone, including MPs, is afraid to speak. "And those of us who do speak, the BJP does not listen to. Only the RSS is given a hearing", he said.

"They will understand that India can not be run by only three people".

Gandhi said Modi's remark that members of the Other Backward Classes lacked skills was a lie. He said people who work hard behind the scene are "never benefitted" and the fruits of their toil are enjoyed by others. Coca-Cola, a soft drink giant, was started by a man selling shikanji (lemonade) in the US, Rahul said, highlighting the fact that in the West, people are rewarded for putting in industry and honest labour, unlike in India. "There is no dearth of skills in the OBC community, as they are endowed with skills", he said.

The Congress chief asked why banks were not open to farmers and small businesses as there were enough skills amongst those in the OBC community, unable to make it big in the absence of capital.

Rahul also alleged that the Modi government has ignored the interests of farmers but has helped a small group of industrialists by waiving loans amounting to almost Rs 2.5 lakh crore.

Gandhi said "rich capitalists" will donate thousands of crores to Modi and "benefits will go to just those 15-20 rich people". The loan waiver was for 15 people but not for the farmer who continues to commit suicide...
