Ryan Gosling Soars as Neil Armstrong in The Trailer For First Man

"First Man" just took one giant step for movie-kind, posting its first trailer of the drama about Neil Armstrong's walk on the moon.

First Man arrives in United Kingdom cinemas on October 12.

But now that NASA's sent people to the Moon a handful of times (if not recently), it's easy to forget just how possible it was that the Apollo 11 mission would fail, and then US president Richard Nixon even had an alternate speech he would've read if the astronauts didn't make it back home.

In the trailer, Gosling is unsurprisingly flawless as Armstrong, as he manages to capture the determination and courage that Armstrong had to have in order to become the first man to walk on the moon.

Even his son asks: "Do you think you're coming back?" Gosling's Armstrong fully understands the risk of the mission he is undertaking, which makes his desire to get to the moon that much more remarkable.

The movie will specifically cover Armstrong's life from 1961-1969, and is described as a "visceral, first-person account that explores the sacrifices and the cost - on Neil and on the nation".

The film also stars Jason Clarke, Kyle Chandler (as a NASA staffer, I love it!), and Claire Foy as Armstrong's wife Janet.

First Man is scheduled to open in New Zealand cinemas on October 11.
