Dancing FBI agent faces charges in accidental shooting

He faces charges for second-degree assault but he has not been formally charged, according to NBC affiliate KUSA.

Chase Bishop, 29, turned himself in and is charged with second degree assault, the Denver District Attorney's Office said.

Chase Bishop is pictured in this undated photo released by the Denver Sheriff's Department.

FBI Agent Chase Bishop was booked on suspicion of second-degree assault after his service pistol fell from his trousers while he was dancing in a nightclub.

The Denver Police Department responded to Mile High Spirits Distillery on Lawrence Street on the morning of June 2.

The FBI agent whose gun accidentally went off at a Colorado nightclub earlier this month is facing criminal charges.

The FBI declined comment on the matter Tuesday "in order to preserve the integrity of the ongoing investigation", Denver FBI spokeswoman Amy Sanders said.

Footage of the incident shows Mr Bishop dancing with a crowd around him when he suddenly thrusts himself backward onto his hands.

Bishop pounced on the weapon but accidentally squeezed off a single round. The victim suffered a serious but non-life threatening injury to the lower leg.

Multiple sources told 9Wants to Know that Bishop is not assigned to the Denver office and works out of Washington D.C.

Federal Bureau of Investigation agent Chase Bishop appears in a booking photo released by the Denver District Attorney's Office, in Denver, Colorado, U.S., June 12, 2018. "And that's when it clicked in my head, 'Oh, I've been shot'".

"I heard a loud bang and I thought some idiot set off a firecracker", Reddington said.

In a statement posted on Facebook two days after the incident, Mile High Spirits bar said one of its "innocent patrons was shot" because of the agent's "misconduct".
