Memphis Grandma Charged for Transporting Kids in Dog Kennels

A Memphis woman has been arrested and charged for two counts of child endangerment, after she was filmed transporting two children in dog kennels, reported CBS news. Temperatures in the area reached about 95 degrees Fahrenheit.

The video shows a woman, who police identified as Cheeks, standing at the back of her SUV as one of her grandchildren climbs out of a kennel in the trunk. "I couldn't see her actually doing that", said neighbor Skylarr Blake.

She said they were in the kennels for a 25-mile journey from her home in Whitehaven to Collierville. A police affidavit cited by the Commercial Appeal cited a similar statement from Cheeks, who reportedly said "there was no room inside the vehicle earlier in the day".

Skylark Blake, one of Cheeks' neighbors said the incident was not typical of something Cheeks would do.

The kids told police that there was no air in the back of the vehicle, later moving them into the backseat.

Cheeks was arrested in Memphis on Sunday morning and is due to appear in court on Monday morning.

The website NoHeatStroke.org says 754 children have died after being left in hot cars since 1998.

Neighbors tells us Cheeks just bought two puppies, which is why the kennels are in the back of her truck.

"I don't think she knew because she loves her grandkids", Cowan said. The attention grew so rabid that the Memphis Police Department issued a statement on Facebook saying they had been contacted by many people since the video went viral on social media.
