Rose McGowan indicted for felony cocaine possession

McGowan's trial date will be set on Tuesday.

Rose McGowan has officially been indicted by a grand jury in her cocaine possession case.

Airport authorities reportedly found cocaine in a wallet McGowan left behind at Washington Dulles International Airport while she headed to the Woman's March in January 2017.

TMZ notes that McGowan could face up to one year behind bars if she's convicted. She later pleaded not guilty to the charge.

"Rose steadfastly maintains her innocence", her attorney Jose Baez said in a statement. The airport found two bags of cocaine inside.

'These charges would have never been brought if it weren't for her activism as a voice for women everywhere.

"There is a warrant out for my arrest in Virginia", she wrote.

McGowan has maintained her innocence, and suggested in court papers that the drugs were planted by people working for disgraced movie producer Harvey Weinstein, who McGowan has accused of raping her in 1997 at the Sundance Film festival.

Weinstein was indicted and charged with rape in the first and third degree and a first-degree criminal sexual act last month. When the narcotics accusations against McGowan surfaced, she said it was an attempt to silence her and was a "load of horsesh*t".

Through a spokesperson, Weinstein has consistently denied any allegations of "non-consensual sex".

Weinstein has since been arrested on charges of rape, committing a criminal sex act, sexual abuse and sexual misconduct in NY for which has pled not guilty.
