Volvo announces Polestar Engineering upgrades

Polestar

But the new "Polestar Engineered" offering that was specifically developed for its "60" range appears to be a bridge between the two, in the same way that BMW's M Performance cars like the M240i straddle the lines between normal BMW's and devilish M Division cars.

According to Volvo, S60 models that receive the Polestar Engineered treatment are positioned above its R-Design versions.

Volvo says the package applies Polestar's "performance engineering expertise" to the vehicle's wheels, brakes, suspension and engine control unit.

Volvo will introduce the next-generation S60 on June 20 during an event held at its new Charleston, South Carolina, factory.

You'll be able to spot a Polestar Engineered auto, thanks to its gold-painted brake calipers set behind unique, lightweight wheels. Instead there will be upgrades offered under the Polestar Engineered label.

Looking ahead, Volvo will release Polestar Engineered versions of the V60 and the XC60. The software upgrades improve fuel consumption and emissions-neutral performance, and refines the automatic gear selection.

Extra changes are largely cosmetic, the Polestar Engineered auto identified by a few gold highlights (that now the Polestar hallmark colour) inside and out, plus black chrome exhaust pipes. Also featured are adjustable Öhlins shock absorbers, paired with a new front strut brace, both shared with the Polestar 1.

Additionally, new lightweight wheels reduce unsprung mass, while chrome exhaust tailpipes and gold-coloured seatbelts emphasise the car's Polestar links.

Volvo's T8 powertrain is comprised of a 2.0-liter turbocharged and supercharged engine, with an additional battery and electric motor mounted at the rear axle. "All components have been fine-tuned to work together, delivering a responsive and exciting drivers' auto".
