Azerbaijan celebrates Eid al-Fitr

Thousands of people in prayer filled the University of Regina football field early Friday morning as the Muslim community gathered to celebrate the end of Ramadan.

Ramadan holds special significance for Muslims and fasting is believed to help one show humility in one's existence while also helping one empathize with the less fortunate.

In the same message, Dutertesaid he joins Filipino Muslims who marked the end of Ramadan and reaffirmed their commitment to self-purification and jubilation.

The city celebrated Eid-ul-Fitr with traditional fervor and gaiety as followers of Islam welcomed the auspicious day.

June 15 and 16 are declared non-working days in Azerbaijan on Eid al-Fitr, according to the decision of the Cabinet of Ministers.

The main Eid-ul-Fitr congregation was held at the Jatiya Eidgah in the capital at 8:30 am with Baitul Mukarram National Mosque Senior Pesh Imam Hafez Maulana Muhammad Mizanur Rahman leading the prayers. Eid-ul-Fitr marks the end of Ramzan.

In Kerala, Eid will be celebrated Friday as the shawal moon was sighted in Kozhikode, Pannakad Hyderali Shihab Thangal said on Thursday.

"Today means happiness and enjoyment, especially for the kids and the families, after fasting for the holy month of Ramadan", said Hajar. Thus, after Eid al-Fitr moon is seen, the month of Shawwal begins. The day of Eid falls on the first day of the month of Shawwal.

It is a significant Muslim festival and a public holiday involving activities including prayers, asking for forgiveness and pledging solidarity, social gatherings and family reunions as well as giving to charity. Indonesia and Brunei are also set to start celebrating Eid on Friday.

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has also confirmed parking timings during the Eid holiday.

However, school children in Dubai will be off from Thursday to Sunday for Eid, the Knowledge and Human Development Authority said on Tuesday.

Eid Mubarak is a standard Muslim woman reserved for the sacred festivals of Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha.
