Russia Shuts Out Saudi Arabia in World Cup Kick-Off

The tournament started with Russia's 5-0 win over Saudi Arabia and has already seen a thrilling 3-3 draw between rivals Spain and Portugal.

The 2018 FIFA World Cup will be held from June 14, 2018 (6/14/18) until July 15, 2018 (7/15/2018) in Russian Federation.

The fact that two of the world's best players, Portuguese centre-forward Cristiano Ronaldo and Argentine playmaker Lionel Messi have not yet won the cup for their respective countries - despite the duo dominating the attractive game virtually unopposed - has captured the minds of spectators from around the world.

The Saudis, who last won a match at the World Cup in 1994, failed to get a single shot on target.

Two teams notably absent from the tournament are Italy and the Netherlands.

Meanwhile, Rafael Marquez entered the match late for Mexico, making him the third player in World Cup history to appear in five tournaments.

Iury Gazinsky scored after 12 minutes and Cheryshev added a second goal before the break after coming on as an injury replacement for Alan Dzagoev.
