U.S. Open 2018: Final results, leaderboard (Brooks Koepka winner)

Brooks Koepka became the first player in three decades to repeat as US Open Champion on Sunday (Jun 17), firing a final round 68 at Shinnecock Hills to beat Tommy Fleetwood by one stroke.

Getty Brooks Koepka of the United States poses with the winner's trophy with Jena Sims after his victory at the 2017 U.S. Open at Erin Hills on June 18, 2017 in Hartford, Wisconsin.

Koepka becomes the seventh player to go back-to-back and the first since Curtis Strange in 1988 and 1989.

Brooks Koepka is your 2018 U.S. Open champion.

Needing only a bogey at the last to win, Koepka hooked his approach so far left it bounced off the base of a grandstand, but he pitched onto the green and lagged his first putt close before tapping in to earn victory.

He pounded his tee shot 340 yards, but it found that unforgiving rough up the right side. With that, he had to get up and down from 62 yards to keep his one-shot lead. And then almost 30 feet at 15, a putt that he walked in with a putter raise, a fist pump, and a little howl to the growing group of spectators.

The Englishman began the day six shots behind clubhouse leader Dustin Johnson heading into the final round. Television (all times EDT): Sunday, 11 a.m.to 8:30 p.m. (FOX).

"There are obviously so many positives about the day", Fleetwood said.

"Of course, Grand Slam would have been nice, but you know, I mean, honestly, to me, that was really the last thing on my mind", Reed said. "But I'll tell you what, it was a long four months".

Morfit: It could've been a 61 even, given his chances on the last three holes. "I enjoy that", he said.

Many wanted to see Mickelson disqualified for his perceived lack of respect, and his wife Amy even reportedly said he tried to withdraw before the final round.

1 Koepka started playing golf when he was 10 years old following a auto crash that left him with facial injuries and meant he was banned from playing contact sports.

Tony Finau had his best finish in a major this weekend, coming in fifth at the U.S. Open.

5 Koepka was Rookie of the Year on both European and PGA Tours in 2015 - he won the Phoenix Open that year and finished 10 in the Open Championship.

Fleetwood's putt at No. 18 missed ever so slightly. He tied the record held by five others at 63, including Johnny Miller when he won in 1973 - the only time a 63 was shot in the Open's last round. 2, 3 and 4.

Let it not be forgotten he was seven over seven holes into his second round - two over for the day - before bouncing back to card an inspired 66.

SOUTHAMPTON, N.Y. -No one was happy about the conditions that set up the final day of the U.S. Open. "Similar to the preparation we took for round 1, green speeds will be, on average, 10-12 inches slower than rounds 2 and 3".

Our translation: We messed up Saturday. "It blew harder than we thought it was going to blow". You can barely touch some of the putts going downhill, and you could easily three or four-putt from three, four, five feet. He wants to be where Johnson now sits, on top of the world, and believes his friend is one of the best to ever play the game. The course played almost a shot easier on average than it did on any other day this week.
