Though Amazon's Alexa-powered Echo speakers are growing in popularity across the domestic realm - helping users control their doors, lights, and search the web using nothing but their voice - the internet giant has been targeting the hospitality sector for a while already.

Alexa for Hospitality will also soon support the ability for Amazon customers to temporarily connect their Amazon account to the Alexa-enabled device in their room.

Marriott did not comment specifically on Apple, but said it has "great relationships with a number of technology companies and is always open to exploring opportunities to innovate and better the guest experience". What's more, Amazon says hoteliers can incorporate the smart home abilities in their rooms with Alexa when available.

Alexa for Hospitality is available to hotels, vacation rentals, and other hospitality providers starting today, with Marriott International signed up to deploy the service across its hotel portfolio this summer. Amazon said data from hotel guests will be deleted daily, and Marriott said those who don't want an Echo device in their room can ask to have it removed. So many of our guests use voice technology in their home, and we want to extend that convenience to their travel experience.

The first company to embrace Alexa for Hospitality is Marriott International.

Hotels will be able to create custom Alexa skills, set default radio stations and add property contacts, among other features. The service will do pretty much what you expect.

People at home are increasingly using their voices to ask digital assistants for the latest weather report, to hail an Uber ride, or to play their favorite songs. A hotel will be able to measure engagement and link it with guest feedback to see how they can improve services to enhance the experience.

As for booking services through channels like Alexa, Marriott isn't going that far (yet, at least).

GeekWire got a first look at initial tests of Amazon's hotel integration earlier this year when we visited the Wynn hotel on The Las Vegas Strip during the big Consumer Electronics Show.

Features developed by DigiValet, Intelity, Nuvola, and Volara allow guests to make requests like "Alexa, order wine", or "Alexa, book a spa appointment", with requests routed to hotel property management systems.
