Dwight Howard expected to enter free agency

The trade got Howard out of Charlotte's locker room, where he was reportedly not well liked (as has been reported after most of his stops in the league), while the Nets got out of a year of Mozgov's contract.

The Nets acquired Howard on Wednesday from the Charlotte Hornets.

"I want to be in a situation where I have an opportunity to help a team win", Howard said during a phone interview, according to ESPN. "That's my only goal". "And basically, an organization that will give me a clean slate and just let me be who I am".

Howard is due $23.8 million this season, and the center is expected to enter free agency once his recent trade to the Nets is complete July 6.

"I was just really in total shock because I wasn't expecting it to happen", he said. He could quickly form a formidable frontcourt duo with two premier rim protectors for the Pelicans next season and possibly beyond that.

While Howard would be likely become one of the top free-agent big men on the market, there was reported tension in the Hornets locker room.

Meanwhile, former NBA player Brendan Haywood said on SiriusXM NBA Radio, "The (Hornets) locker room did not like Dwight Howard", adding, "Guys were just sick and exhausted of his act".

Meanwhile, Howard is still a highly dependable player are coming off a productive campaign where he averaged a double-double with 16.6 points and 12.5 rebounds along with 1.6 blocks in 81 games played.
