Honda’s Mean Mower V2 aims for 150 miles per hour

Honda's Mean Mower Is Back For Another Record Attempt

Honda is setting out to deliver the world's faster lawnmower with its Mean Mower V2. Mean Mower V2 is aiming for a top speed of 150mph and was built by Team Dynamics, Honda's British Touring auto Championship partner. Now using CAD design, more bespoke parts, advanced materials, and 3D printing, it now packs nearly double the power of the original, with the development team estimating it is capable of speeds in excess of 150mph. But that record has since been beaten, so now it's back with the second version that aims to go even faster. "We're in testing phase now and everything is looking good, with a top speed of more than 150mph very much in our sights".

The Mean Mower V2, which is based on Honda's HF 2622 lawn tractor, is powered by a 999cc four-cylinder engine that was ripped from the CBR1000RR Fireblade SP motorcycle. All the while it still has to (technically) be able to cut grass, so it's fitted with carbon-fiber blades, electric motors, and two batteries in a cutter deck modified to accommodate the chain drive to the rear wheels.

That'd be plenty for some cars, but the ride-on mower weighs just 69.1 kilograms (152.3 pounds) to give it the same 1,000-hp/tonne power-to-weight ratio as some hypercars.

WTF?! If you're lucky enough to own a monstrously large lawn, you may find yourself wishing for a mower that can move a little quicker. 3D print an airbox to fit, of course!

Brakes are important in a lawn mower that can hit 150mph and in this case braking uses four-piston calipers front and six in the rear.

With all of this incredible refined raw power, a professional racer is the only choice to tame Mean Mower V2.

Jess Hawkins-a 23-year-old former karting champion-will be behind the wheel of the Mean Machine V2 as Honda attempts to retake its speed record. At just 23, Jess is now performing as a stunt driver in the touring Fast & Furious Live show.
