Up to a million expected to attend Pride in London

3 2018 shows England supporters in Moscow celebrating the team's victory in their Russia 2018 World Cup round of 16 football match against Colombia

It is estimated over one million people will take to the streets and approximately 30,000 people and 472 organisations will join the annual parade, which is one of the world's biggest LGBT+ celebrations.

Ms Camps said the event is taking place at a time LGBT rights issues were more important than ever as the United Kingdom is "falling down the rankings in terms of the best place to be LGBT".

So it is more important than ever this year to show people that we should be able to love whoever we want, regardless of how they identify, what they look like or what their sexuality is.

A further 20,000 people applied to march in the parade but were not permitted to do so after organisers capped the total at 30,000 in a decision that the march co-founder and human rights campaigner Peter Tatchell said amounted to "anti-LGBT+ discrimination". Researchers in the Human Rights Campaign Foundation, and the University of CT concentrated on this age group, Pink News reported, "because of the positive social, psychological and physiological effects of engaging in physical activities that teens may miss out due to lack of acceptance".

"We want to take the opportunity to recognise the NHS and unbelievable people who work in it", Ms Camps said. "We launched past year at Pride - I just felt that we needed to come together and have a unified voice".

The Pride in London Parade will attract support from an unexpected source this weekend when the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) becomes the first national sports governing body to take part independently in the march.

Thousands of supporters lined the streets, which were filled with balloons, sequins and flags.

The NHS took centre stage with a banner at the front of the march with the parade coinciding with the health service's 70th anniversary.

"It's quite poetic with Russian Federation being so problematic as far as LGBT rights are concerned, there's a handsome synergy there", co-chairwoman Alison Camps said.
