Woman on oxygen machine dies after power company cuts off electricity

Eventually, Daniels' heart failed.

Linda Daniels, 68, suffered from congestive heart failure and died seven hours after power to her house was shut off because of an overdue bill. "She was the matriarch of this family - she was the glue that held everything together", said Desiree.

At 10am on Thursday, Linda Daniels' oxygen tank stopped; by 4:30pm, she had drawn her last breath. She said the utility company said they were on their way to the home but no one ever came.

"We're saddened to hear that Ms. Daniels passed away yesterday".

Another woman in NY lost three children after a candle she used to light her home after losing power started a fire, and a man in MI died of hypothermia after his power was shut off.

The power went back on around 8:30 a.m. Friday, the family said. When the unit ran out, EMS was called to the house. Ms Daniels had died a day earlier.

In the hours between, family members rushed to cool down the failing patient. "But we couldn't pump the oxygen".

He added that PSE&G did not know about Daniels' medical condition until after the power was shut off. Since May, the account owed around $1,800, according to ABC 7.

Daniels' family, however, disputes her payments were behind to the point necessitating a shutdown.

"The minimum at least 300 dollars every month all the prior month was 300 dollars last month was 400 dollars this month".

They also paid another $500 on July 3, two days before Daniels' died.

"No warning, no shut-off notice something in the mail".

According to Daniels's daughter Desiree Washington, on Thursday various members of the family tried to alert the power company about Daniels's precarious situation.

"Extreme heat and cold with climate change will only make inequality and injustice worse", Cecil Corbin-Mark of WE ACT for Environmental Justice said following the NAACP report. "We have a large family and everyone in our family was calling", Desiree said.

'We were fanning her. "They cut the power off on what had to be the hottest day of the summer".

New Jersey utility customers who have medical or financial issues can obtain help from a variety of sources, according to the Board of Public Utilities.

"We are horrified. We are angry", Desiree said. "We are reviewing our records to determine what transpired". "They had not notified us of any medical circumstances in the home." .

'And she's a senior. "And there are a lot of people like her".

"PSEG said 'Oh, we're on our way.' They kept telling us that, but no one showed up".

Ambulances were on standby to receive the next batch of boys who are expected to be plucked from the cave.
