Astros Win on One of the Weirdest Walk-Offs in Baseball History

Alex Bregman hit two home runs in the Astros' 11-inning win over the A's on Tuesday, but it was a five-foot tapper that ended up being the difference in the game.

Momentum seemed to be heading in the Athletics direction late in the game - Oakland had tied the game to force extra innings with three runs scored in the ninth, and a home run from Stephen Piscotty gave the road team a 5-4 lead in the top of the 11th.

Bregman is the king of the weird walk off. Bregman squibbed a ball off home plate that briefly rolled into foul territory but spun back fair.

A's catcher Jonathan Lucroy picked up the ball but dropped it as he tried to tag out Bregman, who then took off for first base.

But a crafty dodge by Bregman made Lucroy miss and bobble the ball, which then bounced off of umpire David Rackley before falling to the ground. On April 7, Bregman hit a shallow pop fly that San Diego Padres first baseman Eric Hosmer overran, which allowed the winning run to score.

After struggling to pick up the ball, Lucroy made his throw to first with seemingly enough time to retire Bregman. Tucker sprinted home with the game-winning run to complete the wild finish to the game.

"That was definitely very weird", Bregman told reporters after the game.

This would have been his fourth walk-off RBI of the season, but it was credited as an error so he doesn't get credit.
