Coast Guard crews search for man missing from cruise ship

Man falls overboard from cruise ship off B.C. coast

According to USCG Pacific Northwest officials, multiple crews are searching for the man who "potentially fell overboard" from the Seven Seas Mariner cruise ship, which was sailing of the coast of Cape Flattery, near the Strait of Juan de Fuca.

The U.S. Coast Guard says a helicopter crew found and recovered the unresponsive elderly man.

The vessel was in US waters, just north of Cape Flattery, at the northwestern tip of Washington state's Olympic Peninsula.

The man, suffering from chest pains and accompanied by a nurse, was taken to Cheshire Hall Medical Centre in Turks & Caicos around 6:45 p.m.

"We offer our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the victim".

"Any time we are unable to accomplish our goal of saving lives, we are deeply saddened".

The 73-year-old man was last seen by his wife around 4 a.m. who reported she was woken up by a breeze coming from the open balcony door.

"The cruise ship captain confirmed that a ship video showed the passenger jumping from the eighth deck balcony at 4:15 a.m", adds Petty Officer 2nd Class Ali Flockerzi.

The cause of the incident remains under investigation.
