Footage from inside Thailand cave shows trapped boys' escape route

ASSOCIATED PRESS Rescuers move today to the entrance of the cave complex where five are still trapped in Mae Sai Thailand

In an operation that gripped the entire world, all 12 boys and their football coach have been successfully rescued from a cave in Thailand after being trapped for more than two weeks. "We are not sure if this is a miracle, a science, or what".

Narongsak also paid tribute to Lieutenant Smaan Kunan, the ex-navy SEAL diver who died during a mission last week while delivering oxygen in the cave, saying his sacrifice would be remembered.

He said that the medics will stay on at the cave site for one or two days to check on the health of rescue workers or volunteers.

Speaking to CNN, an emotional Wongsukchan said he had spent 16 days worrying about his son, and he was "so happy and appreciative" of the rescue effort.

"That was just in the very beginning of the cave and at that point we realised this problem is going to be much more complex than we thought", he said.

The group ventured into the vast cave complex in the northern province of Chiang Rai after soccer practice on June 23 and were trapped when a rainy season downpour flooded tunnels. But Thai officials, acutely aware the monsoon rains could trap the boys for months, seized a window of opportunity provided by relatively mild weather. The global bid to extract the team garnered attention from around the world after the team found themselves trapped on June 23 when they entered the cave after practice and were blocked by floodwaters. And the confidence of the diving team, and expertise specific to the cave, grew after its first successful mission Sunday.

The aim, Anderson said, was to make each of the boys "tightly packaged" so divers could keep control of them and adjust their air supply as needed.

The boys had to endure zero visibility conditions of up to 30 minutes, as they made their way through the depths of the cave, according to the the leader of the U.S. contigent.

"The important thing is. personal space", Prayuth told reporters. They received a treat on Tuesday: bread with chocolate spread that they had requested.

They do not look shell-shocked or stunned despite a potentially harrowing 18 days inside a dank, dark cave followed by a risky rescue operation that was dubbed "Mission Impossible".

A spokesperson from the Thai public health authority said that they were in "high spirits" and also claimed that as they are football players, they have high immune systems.

"This victory goes to the heroes of the day, well done boys, you are so strong", French midfielder Paul Pogba tweeted after his team beat Belgium 1-0 on Tuesday to reach the final.

In his letter, Ake apologised to the parents for taking the boys into the cave network, but several replied to say they did not blame him. Jedsada said they were uncertain what type of infections the boys could face "because we have never experienced this kind of issue from a deep cave".

A crack team of foreign divers and Thai Navy SEALS guided the boys during a nine-hour operation through almost 4 km of sometimes submerged, pitch-dark channels from where they have been trapped for more than a fortnight.

Nevertheless, the boys would remain in quarantine in hospital until doctors were sure they had not contracted any infections from inside the cave.
