North Kolkata Congress worker lodges complaint against 'Sacred Games'

The first season of the show, comprising eight episodes, was released on July 6 and is available in 190 countries in four languages, the petition said.

Siddiqui, online platform Netflix and "Sacred Games" producers are "jointly responsible" for abusing Rajiv Gandhi on the show, Congress activist Rajeev Sinha alleged in his complaint, filed in the Girish Park Police Station in north Kolkata yesterday.

The show has also somehow managed to offend Congress, with a Kolkata-based party member filing a complaint against Netflix, the makers and Siddiqui for "insulting" the late prime minister Rajiv Gandhi. He also claims the series has misrepresented facts during Rajiv Gandhi's period as prime minister.

"Sacred Games", starring Saif Ali Khan, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Radhika Apte, tells the story of a police officer who attempts to thwart a terrorist attack in Mumbai.

The series is making as much noise for its sex scenes, the use of profanity and savagery as it is for directors Anurag Kashyap and Vikramaditya Motwane's extraordinary efforts at transforming author Vikram Chandra's mammoth novel by the same name into a web series.

While Sacred Games has received rave reviews from critics and has turned into talking point in the country, the TV series has found itself locked in fresh controversy. The show reflects back on India's political history including Gandhi's alleged role in the Bofors scam, and his involvement in the Shah Bano case.

It is one of the dialogues mouthed by Gaitonde that prompted 37-year-old Rajiv Sinha to type his complaint.

The complaint is in regards to the fourth episode of Sacred Games titled "Brahmahatya" in which Nawazuddin's character talks about Shah Bano's triple talaq case and mocks former PM for playing politics with the case.

"He says, ". Shah Bano ko alag jalaya, desh ko alag. She took him to court and won the case. The Hindus criticized him for this.

"Rajive Sinha also added in his complaint, ".the serial also crosses all limits of decency".
