Tory vice chairs quit over Brexit

EPA ParliamentBoris Johnson is in the firing line from pro-Brexiteers like MP Andrew Brigden

FIANNA Fáil leader Micheál Martin says former foreign secretary Boris Johnson was not dealing in reality when it came to Brexit.

The opposition is equally as unhappy, with Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn asking on Monday: "How can anyone have faith in the prime minister getting a good deal with 27 European Union governments when she can't even broker a deal in her own cabinet?"

Among their first requests to Mr Raab was a call for greater clarity about the Government's aims from its negotiations, with one group telling me that most British businesses are "in the dark" about the "the most basic questions of how they will trade in the future".

May said she had chaired a "productive" meeting of her government, unswayed by the resignations on Sunday and Monday of Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson - the face of Brexit for many Britons - and Brexit negotiator David Davis.

While in Brussels, Mrs May is due to meet US President Donald Trump, who described the United Kingdom as being in "turmoil" after the resignations of Mr Johnson and Mr Davis from Cabinet.

The trans-Atlantic relationship has had some awkward moments since Trump's election. The challenge is all very well for people to say I wouldn't do this.

Penning a satirical limerick describing Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan having sex with a goat and calling him a "wankerer" to rhyme with the Turkish capital of Ankara.

The former Tory leader said it was all very well to be a "romantic" and insist on cutting ties entirely, but it was 'of no practical use to the country'.

Michael Gove left no doubt that he would not follow Boris Johnson and David Davis out of the Cabinet, declaring that he backed the Prime Minister's plans "100 per cent".

"And we'll have as good a relationship with Jeremy Hunt", Mr Pyne said.

The Daily Telegraph said on Tuesday night that senior Brexiteers said that they have enough letters in hand to trigger a confidence vote and will submit them unless she hardens her Brexit plans.

Global trade secretary Liam Fox was seen to shake his head and mouth the word "no" when reporters asked him on his way out of cabinet whether he was about to quit. "This policy will be bad for our country and bad for the party".

The carefully choreographed meeting last week resulted in a deal May believed her cabinet had signed up to, which would create a "UK-EU free trade area" for goods, governed by a "common rule book".

'The UK certainly has a lot of things going on, ' he said.

In doing so, the Gibraltar Government noted that Mr Johnson and Mr Davis have both been strong supporters of Gibraltar in Government and outside it.

It might have also been a response to a number of captains of British industry, several of whom have recently warned that the lack of progress in negotiations to leave the European Union and the fast approaching deadline for Britain's exit is injecting intolerable instability into their businesses, to the extent that they are ready to relocate.

Brexiteer Walsall North MP Eddie Hughes is one of a number of Tory backbenchers to have voiced concerns over the detail of Mrs May's Brexit deal, with the full 120-page version not due to be released until Thursday.
