Wimbledon: Nishikori powers past Kyrgios, to face Gulbis next

Gael Monfils I don't care about Marion Bartoli's comments

Gulbis felt that he could win the match: 'I saw that he was getting exhausted in the fifth set.

It took world no. 28 Nishikori 1 hour, 37 minutes to see off 18th-ranked Kyrgios in the last match of the day for the men's draw.

Kyrgios, though, did muster the grit to retrieve a service break in the second set to force a tiebreaker.

NICK Kyrgios's commitment to tennis is again being questioned after a shocking straight-sets third-round loss at Wimbledon.

Djokovic and Nadal remain on course to meet in the semi-finals, but Zverev will play no part in the latter stages after slumping to a five-set defeat at the hands of qualifier Ernests Gulbis, who rounded off their contest with a bagel.

There was no going back there for me. So I was struggling returning his serve. He has now reached the quarter-final at every Grand Slam, but who knows how his elbow will hold up in a last-eight clash with either Novak Djokovic or Karen Khachanov.

After briefly retiring for treatment for a fall at 2-5 down in the second tie break, Gulbis pulled level, and then went ahead only to lose the set with a backhand into the net.

"In the end I didn't fight as much as I wanted to", said Osaka. "It's not annoying me, so if he wants to talk, OK".

Japanese former world number four Nishikori, seeded 24th, was troubled by his right elbow during the first set which he lost after being broken in the fifth game. I'm, like, I just go through so many different patches in a game.

Kei Nishikori will next play against Novak Djokovic.

He was less forgiving when it came to the way he was treated by the crowd at the All England Club. I haven't spent too much time on the court. "I didn't deserve to be treated the way I was treated by certain individuals".

The Australian 15th seed cut a miserable figure after being catapulted out of his favourite tournament 6-1 7-6 (7-3) 6-4 by merciless Nishikori in just 97 minutes. His ranking has fallen to 138th after struggling for form in the past few years, having reached No. 10 in 2014. Djokovic complained to the chair umpire but the call stood - even though TV replays also showed Edmund's shot had actually landed wide. "He was playing very good, very good serves. I guess it's so hard for me to find that balance", Kyrgios said.

"Anybody can make a mistake".

"I think I had to break him earlier in the second set.this would have turned the match".

That wasn't the only point of contention in the match.

"I guess I just kind of panicked a little bit". That's what I didn't like. I thought that honestly. "As soon as I got out there, I just didn't feel good", he said. This is sports. You can't really plan things.
