Epic announced $8m Fortnite summer series

It won't be long now until Fortnite fans are able to soak in all that the beginning of Season 5 will have to offer, as Epic Games is currently hard at work behind the scenes in preparation of the big update coming to the multiplayer sandbox survival shooter tomorrow. Fortnite has taken the video game industry by storm in recent months, and Epic is preparing to launch the game into its fifth season. We can probably expect to see the axe make an appearance in Fortnite proper, perhaps as part of the Season 5 Battle Pass, which should be full of new cosmetic rewards.

When does "Fortnite" Season 5 start? Today, the developer revealed that the Fortnite servers will officially be down starting at 4:00 a.m. EDT (1:00 a.m. PDT) so that they can properly implement the new content into the game.

If the new Battle Pass is anything to go by, players will have ten weeks and 100 new tiers to unlock, packed to the rafters with new skins, gliders, pickaxes, emotes, loading screens, back bling and much more besides! We're kicking off an 8-week series of competitions where we'll be awarding $8,000,000 in prize money. We'll do our best to provide insight on those as soon as possible.

What are you most looking forward to in Fortnite Season 5?

Plus, Epic's first tease for Fortnite Season 5 shows off a mask of a fox, which some speculate to be Kitsune.

While there are obviously no details about these characters or the theme for season five, fans are certainly buzzing about all the cosmetics and storylines that may be heading for Fortnite: Battle Royale.
