FBI Agent: My Work Has Never Been Tainted by Political Bias

Peter Strzok the FBI agent facing criticism following a series of anti Trump text messages walks to gives a deposition before the House Judiciary Committee on Capitol Hill in Washington. Strzok whose anti-Trump

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte, R-Va., and House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Trey Gowdy, R-S.C., sent a letter on Wednesday to Page's lawyer, telling her that unless Page agreed to testify publicly before their panels on Thursday at 10 a.m. or behind closed doors on Friday at 10 a.m., the GOP would formally seek to hold her in contempt.

Trump has consistently targeted Strzok in claiming that the Russian Federation investigation is a "witch hunt". Considering Democrats agree with his motivations, not to mention the way he classified Trump voters as uneducated, smelly and bigoted in text messages to his mistress, the cheers aren't surprising.

In Thursday's hearing of the House Judiciary and Oversight Committees, Republicans hope to further undermine the credibility of the investigation and head off any potential effort to impeach Trump.

"How can the Rigged Witch Hunt proceed when it was started, influenced and worked on, for an extended period of time, by former FBI Agent/Lover Peter Strzok?".

While the report found that the Federal Bureau of Investigation did not let political bias affect its findings in the Clinton probe, inspector general Michael Horowitz also pointed out that it was troubling that senior Federal Bureau of Investigation officials displayed their preference for Clinton over Trump so clearly during a politically sensitive time. Strzok said, but was cut off by Gowdy.

But in his opening remarks on Thursday to members of the House judiciary and oversight committees, Strzok said there was "no evidence of bias in my professional actions" and defended Mueller's probe. But the thought of exposing that information never crossed my mind.

Page first came to lawmakers' attention over anti-Trump text messages she exchanged with Strzok, with whom she was having an affair.

At one point, when he was finally allowed to give a complete answer to a question, Strzok somewhat angrily explained why not only didn't he do anything to unfairly twist the investigation into Russian meddling, he couldn't have even if he wanted to.

"I think it's important when you look at those texts that you understand the context in which they were made and the things that were going on across America", Strzok testified. In it, Strzok describes his reluctance to work on behalf of the special counsel, and that seemed to imply he didn't think there would be substantial findings of collusion between Russian Federation and the Trump campaign team.

The Justice Department's inspector general has criticized Strzok and Page for creating the appearance of impropriety through the texts.

Strzok also expressed regret for the messages he and Page exchanged, but emphasized that his personal opinions did not impact any of his official actions.

The sharp tone of Strzok's statement set the stage for a contentious hearing following hours of closed-door questioning last week.

The text surfaced in last month's report released by the Justice Department inspector general. Strzok said the disparaging comments were merely political commentary between colleagues during a remarkably heated election.
