HTC Exodus Phone to Support Crypto Wallet, CryptoKitties, Instead of Native Blockchain

The dedicated HTC Exodus site claims that the smartphone will be the "first cold wallet phone with key recovery" offering.

The game, which involved collecting and trading virtual cats, is an example of non-fungible tokens, an aspect of blockchain technology that provides the basis for creating unique digital assets for collectible games where players compete for rare and scarce items.

The company has also announced partnerships with blockchain developers to build new ecosystems based on distributed ledger technology.

However, HTC's Phil Chen, who is the Chief Crypto Officer, has told The Verge that the Exodus would be available "everywhere outside of China".

Designed as an experiment in blockchain gaming, the versatility of the CryptoKitties app invites those interested in blockchain regardless of their interest in cryptocurrency. The U12 Plus is a mass-market device.

HTC would like us to know that it's not kidding about that blockchain phone.

CryptoKitties is now only available on desktop operating systems, and HTC's downloadable app would be the world's first mobile version of the collectible game, a company spokesperson said. Instead, the company will introduce a smartphone containing a cryptocurrency wallet and CryptoKitties, the Ethereum-based decentralized application (DApp) game.

HTC said it will also launch its own blockchain network, with each Exodus smartphone acting as a node and facilitating transactions. While blockchain and cryptocurrencies are nascent for the tech world, the Taiwanese giant is set to use Exodus as a node to "double and triple the number of nodes of Ethereum and Bitcoin".
