Lovren hails Croatia's historic World Cup achievement

Lovren ready for Kane test at World Cup

"From my point of view, people said I had a hard season but I don't agree", he said.

The England central defender has seen his stock rise no end after a magnificent World Cup where his performances have helped his country to the last four of the tournament. People are crying. It's something historical for us.

I showed why I took Liverpool to the final of the Champions League and now with the national team, and now I'm in the World Cup final.

Lovren continued the excellent form he displayed in the second half of Liverpool's season by repelling England and crushing their dreams of a first appearance in the final since 1966.

"I think people should recognise that I'm one of the best defenders in the world". People now will never forget us.

But Lovren said he enjoyed taking on the world's best as he looks to showcase his talent on a huge stage.

"I really don't understand these questions, always looking back to where I made some mistakes", he said.

Lovren was able to shackle Harry Kane for the majority of the 120 minutes, and was asked after the game how Croatia have so much talent within their ranks.

"But whatever, this is what gets me more motivated to work harder and prove everyone wrong, everyone".

And he is delighted that this current Croatian generation have finally lived up to, and now surpassed, the standards of the 1998 team which reached the semi-finals.

If Lovren and his team-mates can control Mbappe and manage the alternative threats of Olivier Giroud and Antoine Griezmann on Sunday in Moscow, Croatia will have a genuine chance of pulling off a victory.

He added: "Today everyone in Croatia and around the world knows that we managed to make history".

But after the break, Croatia took control, equalised through Ivan Perisic and then won the game with Mario Mandzukic's extra-time strike. This is why I am proud.

"I went through a lot of sh** and now I would say it is coming back".
