Photo Suggests Nets Interested In Marcus Smart

Jaylen Brown

Smart came into free agency expecting to get paid, and rightfully so, but as of Tuesday morning, Smart is reportedly open to accepting a long-term offer for less than $15 million annually.

The latest news on restricted free agent Marcus Smart is coming in bunches. And during media availability in Las Vegas on Wednesday, Ainge indicated yet again that they want Smart in green. But our priority remains the same.

If Smart signs an offer sheet with the Kings and Boston declines to match it, it will be a blow to a Celtics defense that was among the best in the National Basketball Association last season. The combo guard has been on the market a bit longer than many teams expected, and on Tuesday, former Boston Herald reporter Mark Murphy said that President Danny Ainge and Smart had a phone call to touch base, but no deal was offered.

Shooting has been a clear weakness for Smart, but his defense and ability to make game-changing plays has made him a favorite of fans and the coaching staff who all greeted him enthusiastically when he showed up at the end of Boston's 100-80 summer league win over Charlotte. "Our priority is still Marcus in free agency, and that's where we are". "It's my job to be fiscally responsible, but we will pay the tax".

The Nets have yet to add a major free agent this summer, and Smart is one of the top players still available.

Smart has been an important sixth man for the Celtics since being drafted in 2014.
