Rangers transfer spree to continue as Gerrard targets strong squad

Club historian David Mason on the comparisons between the first games of the Steven Gerrard and Graeme Souness.

Umar Sadiq is on the path to becoming a super star and Rangers Manager, Steven Gerrard is confident the player has the potential to succeed.

Dominic Solanke, Harry Wilson and Jake Cooper are among the players to have been linked with Rangers in recent times. "I won't be adding to any speculation". But I need another centre back.

When asked about his summer shopping, Gerrard said: "It's hard to put a number on it".

"We are very close to completing what we want". There's just a few more pieces missing, maybe.

Along with a potential deal for Cooper, Umar Sadiq and Lassana Coulibaly will join on loan this week when they receive global clearance.

"We're trying to get the right balance and the right blend".

"I'm really happy to get them over the line as they will both make the team and squad a lot stronger", he added. He works his socks off for the team in and out of possession.

"Lassana is a very different midfield player in the destroyer mode who is very powerful, aggressive, who will snap about and win tackles for us and break it up and use the ball intelligently".

The chase for Cooper comes with the Rangers boss confirming that veteran Portugal defender Bruno Alves has had his contract mutually terminated to leave for Parma.

As well as Sadiq and Coulibaly, Rangers have also signed Connor Goldson, Nikola Katic, Jamie Murphy, Allan McGregor, Jon Flanagan, Scott Arfield and Ovie Ejaria - the latter on loan from Liverpool.
