BBC's 12 highest earners are all men

The Match Of The Day host is the biggest earner, taking home between £1.75 million and £1,759,999.

Evans takes in between £1.66-£1.67, while Irish chatshow host Graham Norton earns between £600,000 - £609,000.

Men occupied the top 12 slots and accounted for around six in 10 of the highest-paid on-air talent. His World Cup colleague, Alan Shearer, earns £410,000-419,999.

They are paid by its commercial arm, BBC Studios, which is not funded by the licence fee.

However, the list does not include the BBC's best paid actors and comedians.

BBC women have attacked the corporation's "absolutely glacial" progress on equal pay after the proportion of female presenters on its rich list fell in a year.

Mr Nolan presented about 210 programmes on BBC Radio Ulster, 150 on BBC Radio 5 Live and 20 editions of the television show Nolan Live.

The BBC said the published salaries do not yet fully reflect some pay rises and pay cuts, which will not filter through until next year's list. However, her salary has dropped from a year ago, when she was on £450,000-£500,000.

Winkleman, who fronts popular entertainment shows including Strictly Come Dancing, was in eighth place previous year, but the BBC said her fall to 13th place was linked to a structural shake-up.

It catapulted the broadcaster into turmoil, with respected China editor Carrie Gracie resigning over unequal pay.

Female stars - including Miss Husain, Miss Derbyshire and Woman's Hour's Jane Garvey - retweeted a comment which claimed many female workers at the BBC "are still involved in protracted and gruelling processes to address their pay claims".

The BBC recently published figures showing it had reduced its gender pay gap by almost a fifth.

Director General Tony Hall said the BBC was committed to closing the gender pay gap by 2020, but added that "these things take time".
