Chu Ready to Adapt Thai Rescue Story

So he's making his own movie.

Ivanhoe Pictures and its sister company SKE develop worldwide and local-language pictures for global audiences in the US, India, Taiwan, South Korea and Latin America. Ivanhoe has even begun the process of shopping the project around to studios for distribution.

The boys were eventually rescued, along with their coach, and now Hollywood wants in on the incredible story. "That won't happen or we'll give them hell", Chu tweeted, adding it's "a attractive story" about human beings saving other human beings. There's a handsome story abt human beings saving other human beings. Now, there's no guarantee that Pure Flix, the production company that first announced that it was eyeing the movie rights to the story, would whitewash the film, but considering its roster of faith-based movies like God's Not Dead and God's Not Dead 2, it's highly likely that they would. "So anyone thinking abt the story better approach it right & respectfully", he tweeted on Wednesday (July 11).

The Thai boys' soccer team might have only just been rescued from their ordeal in a cave, but already there are two movies about what happened in the works. The managing director, who is married to a Thai woman who knew the former Navy SEAL that died on the mission, said it could be a movie that "inspires millions" and that he sees it being a "major Hollywood film with A-list stars". The studio said that the film would be directed by Jon Chu, an American. Joe: Retaliation, and is set to direct a movie adaptation of the musical In the Heights.

"We have the power to not only MAKE history but be the historians that RECORD it too", Chu continued tweeting. "So that it's told correctly and respectfully".

Responding to user comments, he added, "Those days of letting [whitewashing] happen are over". Never again. We have arrived.
