Emmys 2018 Nomination Snubs - Who Was Left Off List

HBO's (T.N) medieval fantasy series "Game of Thrones" led nominations for the Emmy Awards on Thursday that spanned satire to the supernatural, but streaming service Netflix (NFLX.O) knocked HBO off its 17-year pedestal as the network with the most nods. NBC's Saturday Night Live, with 21 nominations this year, has now been nominated 252 times in its history, a record for any show. These shows and performances absolutely deserved a little recognition.

With women's rights advocates angry over President Donald Trump's nomination of a deeply conservative judge to serve on the Supreme Court, a show about a fictional nightmarish America run by a totalitarian regime bent on oppressing women is tipped to steal some of the thunder of "Thrones". "The Handmaid's Tale" contributed to 27 nominations for Hulu, while "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel" helped Amazon collect 22. It was nominated 24 times in both 2015 and 2016, winning 12 Emmys both years.

The TV industry has made recent strides toward inclusion, with Glover and Sterling K. Brown of "This Is Us" winning top acting awards a year ago and both nominated again. Adrift in third was NBC with 78 nods.

Although it's up for top series honors, it drew only three supporting acting bids for cast members Lena Headey, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau and Peter Dinklage.

Moss was nominated for best actress in a drama series for The Handmaid's Tale, with Strahovski's nomination coming in the supporting actress category.

"GLOW" star Alison Brie wasn't nominated for her work on the Netflix series, in which she plays a struggling actress who joins a TV show focusing on women's wrestling.

The mini-series that scored nominations ahead of Top of the Lake and Australia's other hope, Picnic at Hanging Rock, were: The Alienist; The Assassination of Gianni Versace; Genius: Picasso; Godless; and Patrick Melrose.

On the comedy side, last year's victor, Donald Glover for "Atlanta", goes up against Anthony Anderson, "black-ish"; Ted Danson, "The Good Place"; Larry David, "Curb Your Enthusiasm"; Bill Hader, "Barry"; and William H. Macy, "Shameless". Atlanta leads in comedy series nominations with 16, and RuPaul's Drag Race and The Voice each had 10 nominations to lead in the reality-competition category. Or maybe it's just that we're never going to be happy in this era of "peak TV".

Al Pacino, Kyle MacLachlan, and Michael B. Jordan were all in the hunt but missed out.

Read on for a look at some of those who didn't make the cut.
