First Look & Details For 'Godzilla: King Of The Monsters' Revealed

Godzilla: King of the Monsters will be putting an end to our speculation when the movie stomps into cinemas on May 31st, 2019. Which isn't almost enough time for people to stop freaking out about the discovery that they share the planet with a gargantuan lizard.

Godzilla hasn't been seen in the five years since it last appeared, "but there's paranoia and endless speculation about whether he is the only one out there or whether we're threatened by others like his kind". The second photo, meanwhile, gives us our first look at Vera Farmiga and Millie Bobby Brown as Dr. Emma Russell and her daughter Madison, respectively.

Dougherty also revealed more details on what has been going in the world of King of the Monsters since 2014's Godzilla, which reintroduced Western audiences to the massive lizard that protects and destroys in turn. Michael Dougherty went into some detail about one of those monsters, Rodan, calling him a "winged A-bomb". In it, Godzilla will be making use of his "atomic breathe" ability, which was a staple of the older Japanese films.

Say what you will about the 1998 Godzilla, but that movie had a pretty ingenious method of advertising the size of the titular beast without giving away its appearance, launching a series of posters emblazoned with such ominous boasts as "His foot is bigger than this bus".

Dougherty wouldn't reveal much about that particular scene, though he did elaborate that "it takes place at a very key moment and it's a sort of call to arms". The pair are kidnapped by what Dougherty describes as "a mysterious organization, with their own plans for the creatures". Given that Chandler also costarred in Peter Jackson's 2005 remake of King Kong, perhaps he may stick around for the next installment in Legendary Entertainment's "MonsterVerse": 2020's Godzilla vs. Kong.

We've known for a while now that King of the Monsters will be bringing King Ghidorah, Mothra, and Rodan into the fold, and Dougherty says the film does Rodan justice after the character has played sidekick to Godzilla in previous features. The director went on to say that he may even be more powerful than Godzilla.
